JVA Head Coach Paul Garland
Paul Garland is in his 15th year coaching soccer and holds a USSF National E License and working towards his USSF National D License this fall (2021). Ten years have been as a head coach at the competitive club level and currently with Ohio Premier. He has also coached for Columbus Crew SC Player Development (8), Sporting Columbus (2) and Worthington United (1). Additionally, he is entering his eighth coaching at the high school level. Four years with Johnstown high school-2014-2018 (3 as varsity head coach and 1 as assistant JV coach). His teams made it to the District Round of the State Playoffs twice since the program began in 2009 and their highest league finish in 2018 (2nd place – Licking County League). This upcoming season will be his fourth with Upper Arlington as head JVA coach and has a record of 29-10-9.
Paul resides in Upper Arlington with his wife Joette. He has two sons Hunter (23) and Hayden (19) who is a striker for the Ohio Dominican Men’s Soccer Team. Paul has his Bachelors of Science degree in Architecture from The Ohio State University and a Masters of Architecture degree from Boston Architectural College. He has worked as an architect in Columbus since 1995 and fun fact: Paul was the league architect for the Marv Moorehead Stadium turf replacement in 2014.
